doweshowbellyad=0; Anupama Verma. (TOI Photo)Model-cum-choreographer Anupama Verma is in town today with a lead role in the play, A Perfect Divorce. What is your play, A Perfect Divorce, all about? All I can say about A Perfect Divorce is that it is a comedy of errors with lots of mishaps and miscommunication. It’s a fun watch for people of all age groups and if the audience comes in expecting some serious stuff, they will be mistaken.
The play is just about a month old and we are coming to Kolkata with it for the first time.
But what made you toy with theatre all of a sudden?I had never tried the form before mainly because I travel extensively. What appealed to me about this script was its light-hearted nature. I firmly believe that theatre is just for self-fulfilment. Surely, this isn’t your first visit to the city? Not in the least. I keep coming down to Kolkata very often with my shows and I have some very fond memories of the city. I love Kolkata and its people. I have also gorged on the yummy fare at Tangra. Besides, I also make sure of stuffing myself with sandesh, rosogolla and mishti doi. The only troublesome thing about this place is travelling from the airport to the city. So, what keeps you busy these days?I am producing my own shows along with hosting a travel show for an international channel. I live out of a suitcase for more than 15 days a month. I also end up walking the ramp very often.Your stint with Bollywood never really took off. What went wrong?I was never in the thick of things there. Grahan took a very long time to release and I was a little disillusioned. But I continue with my odd acting here and there. I’m not in the race for anything. I also did a film as lead with Nana Patekar and that was a great working experience for me. I have just finished shooting for a special number for Sanjay Gupta’s Woodstock Villa. You mean an item number?Yes, but I choose not to call it an item number. It’s more of a special appearance.Your video albums have been tremendous hits as well...Yes, I think I have just been lucky with my songs. Be it Boom boom, Tere bin or even Bheegi bheegi — they were all chartbusters. As an accomplished model, do you think the thin line dividing the fashion industry and Bollywood has vanished?Of late, it has. When we started off, it wasn’t so and models were still considered to be poor actors. But perceptions have changed now.
